Vicinity Centres is pleased to announce construction of the $72 million expansion and redevelopment of Gateway Plaza Leopold has commenced.
Stage one of the development includes a large format Bunnings Warehouse, which is scheduled to open in mid-2016. Also joining the hardware store will be a new full range Kmart and popular discount supermarket ALDI.
These large retailers will anchor 40 new specialty stores opening in stage two of the redevelopment, due to be completed late next year.
Located on the Bellarine Highway, Gateway Plaza Leopold is situated between the rapidly growing regions of the Bellarine Peninsula and Greater Geelong. Currently positioned as a convenience centre with a Coles supermarket, 18 specialty stores, a discount chemist and a McDonalds, the expanded and refurbished shopping centre will be five times bigger when stages one and two are finished.

We have ensured the new enlarged centre will have the right mix of retail and services for residents now and into the future. With the addition of Bunnings Warehouse, Gateway Plaza Leopold will be the key shopping destination on the Bellarine Peninsula.”
The redeveloped centre’s new town plaza will have an interactive and child-friendly water feature. Meeting the needs of local families, the new parents’ room will include a secure toddler play area, several private nursing booths and a large baby change area.
Gateway Plaza Leopold will also incorporate a new alfresco eating area and casual dining precinct, complementing the greatly expanded food and retail services that will be on offer.
Once completed, it’s estimated Gateway Plaza Leopold will generate at least 200 new jobs in the region. Including employees needed for Kmart and 40 new specialty stores, the ALDI supermarket will provide 15-20 permanent positions and give additional opportunities to local
