Phase one: a new fresh food and dining precinct

Planned to commence in later 2022, Vicinity will redevelop Chatswood Chase Sydney’s lower ground level fresh food and dining precinct, transforming the area to deliver a more premium experience befitting of the centre’s positioning and better aligned with the demands of its customer base.

Bookended by a Coles and a Kmart, the fresh food precinct will be expanded with a wider mall, improving accessibility and creating new retail opportunities. Plans will target a combination of approximately 40 new and existing fresh food retailers, including a large gourmet fresh food operator. 

Adjacent to the fresh food precinct will be a newly renovated dining hall that promises an elevated experience including premium dining operators to complement the centre’s broader retail offering. 

Once construction is commenced, the development is expected to take 12 months to deliver with major retailers remaining open throughout.

Phase two: a refreshed retail precinct and new rooftop offices

The redevelopment of Chatswood Chase Sydney remains one of Vicinity’s most exciting large-scale retail development opportunities. 

Building on Vicinity’s position as Australia’s leader of luxury and leveraging its strong relationships with luxury and international brands, the retail development will introduce a new and upgraded luxury retail offer, delivering the best of Australian and international designers curated especially for the Chatswood Chase Sydney customer. 

Amongst the introduction of new luxury brands, the retail precinct will receive a major reconfiguration, design refresh and new skylight-atria features throughout. The Victoria Street entrance will also receive a major upgrade, reframing it as the front entrance and gateway to the new Chatswood Chase Sydney.

Complementing the major redevelopment of the luxury retail precinct is the introduction of an 8,500 sqm new rooftop office workspace. Part of Vicinity’s journey to introduce mixed-use precincts to its strategically located shopping centres, the Office Village leverages the amenity and convenience already on offer at Chatswood Chase Sydney, providing up to 850 new office workers a new workplace solution. 

Office space in Chatswood is in limited supply but high demand, and the Office Village’s contemporary space has been planned with modern needs and tastes in mind, including an open-air rooftop laneway, informal meeting spaces and open-plan working.

Sustainable development

Vicinity is committed to sustainability in the design and construction of its developments and in the engagement with local stakeholders and Traditional Custodians. 

Sustainable design strategies such as the use of natural light and leading End of Trip facilities that promote sustainable commuting will help Chatswood Chase Sydney to achieve strong sustainability ratings including a targeted 5-star Green Star rating for Design and ‘As Built’. 

Additionally, Vicinity has commenced engagement with the Traditional Custodians of Cammeraygal Country, the land upon which Chatswood Chase Sydney is located.
